LYRIZO

Many of you know that some while back I lived in Greece, where I did decorative painting, collected folk tales and wrote songs. A few of those songs were in Greek, a language heretofore unknown to me. But I felt compelled to express my feelings about Nature and Spiritual Growth.

And here is the product – a little bilingual book called Lyrizo. It means ‘I’m playing the lyre’; and Lyra – Lyre in Greek – is, of course, the root of the word lyrics.

THE FOLK OF THE TWILL – BOOK REVIEWS

I AM ENJOYING the wonderfully descriptive prose of Twill Folk. Indeed it is so beautifully written that I can see and feel the intensity of the colours, the character of the characters, the warmth of the sun etc.

It is hard to imagine that anyone could bring so much colour to words on paper…..wonderful book Amrita.

THERE IS nothing more magical and alluring than this land of Twill, with its most extraordinary inhabitants. Written in a crystal bright language, you become absorbed into this sparkling world of its wonderful people and events. It’s a land we image, dwelling somewhere end of the rainbow that we’ve always, especially as children, wanted to visit, or even live. I myself have a passion to live there.

The author imagines it for us, the story beginning with Lord Oaken and his emergency meeting in the handsome council chamber hall of Hollyberry Hall with its walls ‘ornamented with bas-relief figures of animals and birds and flowers painted with vibrant colours.’ At this meeting sit, as well as keep entering, a fabulous array of characters, from elves to folk of all descriptions. The Vale of Twill, with it accompanying maps, holds many surprises, for there is a new world here to be discovered…

I AM a born and bred Devonshire boy. As I listened to the chapter ‘Of the Tales Told by the Fireside in the Pipers’ I was taken to that place – and it was wonderful! I was in that book, and such were the descriptions that I could hear the creaking door hinges and I could smell the fire.

I love the moors and creaky doors and olde worlde stuff; and I love this book. With its picturesque details and authentic Devonian characters and dialogues it took me right there – to an old pub somewhere on the edge of the moor.

Charming and atmospheric, but realistic and well researched: The author has certainly done the home-work on our folklore.

It is a wonderful book. Fantastic, amazing and wonderful!

I BOUGHT this book for a friend after reading extracts and hearing some of the spoken word. It certainly evokes feelings of a Middle Ages alternate reality where characters seem to appear with hidden messages with a feeling that there is more to be foretold.

I like the way the author actually seems to be telling the story as if relating from the time and place itself. An unusual and interesting book especially with the addition of maps etc to help the reader visualise the setting to the fullest. I look forward to the future additions in this series.

Folk of the Twill BOOK LAUNCH

A gathering of fans, friends and followers at the historic Bogan House in Totnes to celebrate the launch of my first book, The Folk of the Twill.
